What is Black Minds Matter all about?
Black Minds Matter are offering free therapy (up to 12 weeks) to black individuals and familes through crowdfunding created in the aftermath of George Floyds death in America that has sparked conversations around the world about being black in sociaty and the impact on black people's mental health.
From the Black Minds Matter mission statement -'Our mission is to connect Black individuals and families with free mental health services — by professional Black therapists, specifically for Black trauma. To make this happen, we want to make mental health topics more relevant and accessible for all Black people in the U.K., removing the stigma and remodelling the services to be relevant for the Black community.
The Black Minds Matter U.K. fund is therefore used to cover the cost of the services you need most — including up to 12 sessions of therapy. With a growing collective of certified, professional, culturally competent therapists — beginning your journey towards improved mental health is as easy as browsing the collective, choosing a therapist and arranging a consultation. Your therapist will then contact us to confirm your assessment, and we’ll cover the cost. So there’s no paperwork for you, just a safe space for your journey to begin.
Set against the backdrop of the pandemic, which disproportionately affects Black people, and the growing Black Lives Matters movement — there has never been a more important time for Black individuals to begin their journey of improved mental wellbeing. We are here to support you, every step of the way.'
